Conflict Resolution with Power and Privilege in Mind (2-Part Series)

This is a live, online event where you’ll participate actively with facilitators and other participants! We will send login information one week before the event, so please make sure you enter your email correctly when you register.

Be sure to add our email address (workshops@compasspoint.org) to your approved senders list so that we don’t end up in your spam folder!

In order to build community and protect confidentiality in the space, we do not record our workshops. If you miss a training date, we cannot provide you with a recording of the training.

Registration for this training is offered on a sliding scale. If your personal or organizational budget allows, please pay the full fee so we can keep registration accessible for leaders and organizations who may not be in the same position. Greater access strengthens us all!

Planning on purchasing five or more registrations at once? You’re eligible for a 20% discount off your order total.  For more information on bulk discount eligibility, please visit our FAQ or contact us at workshops@compasspoint.org.

Interpersonal conflict isn’t a matter of “if”, it’s a matter of “when”. Most of us avoid conflict, forgetting that on the other side of tension, we can often find transformation.

When we get into conflict with each other (at our organizations or in movement spaces), we often do so without taking time and space beforehand to slow down and explore our own relationship to conflict—namely, what drives our reactions and how our approach to conflict relates to power and privilege. This is a space to learn how to shift power dynamics by employing communication skills like listening, inquiry, and empathy.

Who is this training for?

This is a space for people who work at nonprofit organizations and/or in social justice movement spaces who want to explore approaches to interpersonal conflict resolution and develop an approach that reflects their values.

In this online workshop, you will:

  1. Learn five conflict resolution styles and how they intersect with positional power and social privilege

  2. Identify how you want be your “best self” in conflict

  3. Build on your abilities of listening, inquiry, and empathy as skills for working through conflict

Get ready to participate!

Our trainings come alive with your participation and willingness to engage. Please be ready to participate in group discussions and share your experience, creativity, questions, and challenges with us. In particular, you will reflect on how power and privilege shape your approach to conflict, create principles for how you want to show up to conflict in the future and practice listening skills with others.

This is a multi-day offering. Please make sure you can attend all dates before registering and that you are familiar with our cancellation policy.

Accessibility is very important to us! Closed captioning will be provided. If you require specific accommodations (for example, receiving screen reader-friendly versions of learning materials ahead of time), please notify us at workshops@compasspoint.org two weeks in advance of the scheduled offering so that we can do our best to meet your needs. ASL interpretation is not provided unless requested.
